Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

This term we are learning about the Ancient Egyptians! We will be finding out about Tutankhamen and how his treasures were discovered, the many Gods and Goddesses, the location of Egypt and even how to mummify a fish!

We have got off to a great start and so far we have learnt about expanded noun phrases, speech, the different parts of a tooth, how to round and all about our own family trees. We have been very busy!

This year you will be set one homework a week. This will be on a Monday. It is due in on the Friday. If this is on Mymaths, you will find your personal log in details stuck into the front of your reading log.

Alongside this, you are expected to learn spellings related to the National Curriculum. These will be given out on a Monday, you will be tested on these the following Friday. You can practice these in the front of your yellow book.

Reading is a very important way to both learn and relax in the evenings. Please try to read at least four times a week at home. Or even better, read out loud to someone! It is particularly impressive if you can write a comment about what you have learnt in your reading log. Possibly about your favourite bit so far, who your favourite character is or even who you would recommend it to. There are lots of questions for you to think about and these are stuck in the front of your reading logs.

If any parents are keen to come in and help in the classroom, you are more than welcome!

Useful things to know:

In class we use a reward system called Dojos. Each child is given their own alien avatar, which earns/looses points for behaviour. The class have to cooperate together to earn 150 Dojos each week in order to earn their Golden time.

Spelling is one of our main priorities this year. So any extra practice would be very beneficial.

By the end of the year, all children should be able to correctly use the Year 3 and 4 high frequency words:

If you have any spare time on your hands, why not practice those spellings?
