A document containing the answers can also be found below so you can mark your own work once you’re finished. You can also use the answer sheet to work through any questions you struggled to answer.

Writing Task: Discussion Text

Before we begin writing today, look over your table of ideas that you wrote yesterday. Can you think of any other ideas of what is good about learning at home and at school? Add them to your table.

We are going to write a discussion text with the title Is Learning at school the best way to learn? The structure of this will be similar to the discussion text we wrote in the Autumn Term – Should Coraline live with her other mother?

Today we will be writing an introduction to the discussion. In this introduction you need to explain what learning at home is and what learning at school is. Here is an example to help you.

Is learning at home the best way to learn?

Until recently, children have always received the majority of their education at school. They have spent five days a week in their classroom - with their teacher, a teaching assistant and surrounded by their peers. However, due to a global pandemic, schools have been closed and children have faced a new way of life: home learning. Children now are required to complete their learning in the comfort of their own homes, accessing their learning tasks online. Is home learning the best way for children to learn? This discussion text will explore the positives about both learning environments and decide the best way for children to learn.

Use the introduction above as a guide to write your own. Remember to edit your writing and try to include interesting word choices and punctuation.

Pentecost – The Holy Spirit arrives

At Pentecost the Church celebrates the fulfilment of Jesus’ promise that the Holy Spirit will guide and help his disciples to understand all that he has taught them. It is celebrated 50 days (7 weeks) after Easter Sunday and brings the Easter season to an end. It is sometimes called the ‘birthday’ of the Church.

Watch the clips below that show the Holy Spirit appearing to the disciples.

The Holy Spirit comes - Pentecost - Bible For Kids

The Holy Spirit Comes (Day of Pentecost)

The arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was the gift that the disciples had been waiting for. They were able to be witnesses for Jesus as they were filled with courage and now able to speak different languages to communicate with all children. They were able to share God’s message to all those who would listen to them.

Task: Imagine you were a disciple who had just experienced the Holy Spirit coming down. As a witness for Jesus, write a short speech proclaiming the good news. What would you say? How are you going to encourage more followers of Jesus? Use the information in the video clips to help you with your speech.

Challenge: Can you explain how being a follower of Jesus will affect your life?
