Here you will find your tasks for the day. If you have any worries or concerns, you know where to find me.

Joke of the day:

Q: What fish only swims at night?
A: A starfish!

Fact of the day:

A day on Venus lasts longer than a year, it is 243 Earth days.

PE:

Please follow one of the links on the Year 4 home page to either Cosmic Kids, GoNoodle, PE with Joe Wickes or Smiling Minds. The choice is up to you this week! Make sure you stay fit and healthy.

Reading:

Please make sure you are dedicating about 25 minutes per day to reading. Remember you can quiz at home too!

Spellings

Today we are looking at Special focus 2 in our spelling books. We will be learning about homophones. Remember, these are words which sound the same but are spelt differently.

Guided reading

Today we will finish The Paperbag Prince. There is not yet a quiz on it, but perhaps one of you would like to make one!

Have a THINK about the following questions:

  • Why do you think the lorries stopped coming?
  • How do you think the Paperbag Prince felt after hearing the lady from the council’s news?
  • Why would it start to look green again?
  • Would you like to live on a train carriage? Why?
  • Do you think the man was lonely? What do you think he thought about the rest of man-kind?

English

Today, you should have finished the Paper Bag Prince. This week, we will be writing stories in the style of Colin Thompson’s book. Today you are planning your ideas out. You may want to use bullet points to do this. Read through the PowerPoint to find out more!

Maths

Yesterday you looked at small time units – seconds, minutes and hours. Today we are looking at larger time units- days, weeks, months and years.

Topic

We are sticking with our learning on maps and today we will be attempting to read grid references. These are basically co-ordinates and I know you can read these as we have done them in maths! You can decide whether you want to read a 4 point grid reference or a 6 point grid reference. It is probably best to decide after reading the PowerPoint. Don't forget to use the correct map. If you choose the 3 star activity, you need to look at the 3 star map.
