Inter-School Sporting Events

Over the years St Peter's have not always been too successful in the inter-school sporting events.  These events are attended by the locality schools and the children compete in a variety of sports over the course of the school year.  This year has been our most successful for some time, with thanks to Mr Matthews and Miss Cappella providing coaching and assistance for these events.  We are one of the smallest schools in the locality and, therefore, it is not always possible for us to have specific teams or training - many of the other schools are able to put together two teams for events like the football, basketball and netball tournaments, also giving them greater advantage.  Despite this we have completed well this year as you can see below -

(The minimum number of teams/schools competing in each event is 8).

Year 5/6 Girls Football Tournament

On 3rd February Mr Matthews and Miss Cappella took 9 Year 5/6 girls to the Southern area girls football finals where they competed against 7 other teams from around Sussex.  We went into this tournament having not lost a game or conceded a goal during the locality tournament on 28th January.  We played our first game against Georgian Gardens who we beat 2-0 with goals from Maddie Carter and Elisha Elton.  Our second game was against Lyminster School who we drew 0-0 with in a very close game.  Our last game of the group stage was against The Orchards School who we beat 1-0 with a goal from Elisha Elton.  We ended the group stage with 12 points and finished 2nd in the group.  We were in the final 4 and unfortunately for us we met Mr Nick Knowles and his Steyning team, who we played an incredibly close game against - the game ended with a penalty shoot-out (which is a horrible way to lose a game of football) and we lost 3-1.  We then went in to the 3rd/4th place play-off against Downsbrook School, which was a very close game and we drew 0-0.  This meant that we finished joint 3rd, an incredible feat for a small school finishing as joint 3rd best year 5/6 girls football team in Sussex!!  The girls have made themselves, their parents, the school and especially Mr Matthews and Miss Cappella very proud - incredibly well done girls!

Squad: Georgia Anderson, Diora David, Maddie Carter, Isabelle Taylor, Elisha Elton, Cassie Arnold, Daisy Fox, Lily Burgess and Scarlett Cosson.
