Phonics

Here are some resources to support your child with phonics at home.

The consonant blend wordlists below will help with reading real and alien/nonsense words.

Often, when children are reading, they miss a unit of sound when they segment, for example:-

flear  may be segmented as   f-ear    because that is a word they are familiar with.

By practising segmenting each unit of sound, this will help them read the words accurately.

The wordlist can be used by doing the following. 

1. Write the word clearly for your child.  e.g blook

2. Ask them to segment each unit of sound   e.g  b-l-oo-k

3. Blend the sounds to read the whole word e.g blook.
