29th January 2021 Friday

We are doing a maths zoom at 9am. Please use the link in the email to take part in this.

Today we are going to start our new topic - money. To begin, we will recap pence.

If you were unable to join the zoom, click on this link to watch a video on this topic:

and work through the powerpoint below before you try to complete the worksheet.

We are doing an English zoom at 10:30am. Please use the link in the email to take part in this.

We are going to start off by reading chapters 3-5 of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

We are going to think about the reasons why a palace made of chocolate would be a good thing, and why it would be a bad thing. On zoom, we are going to have a mini debate! You can give me your reasons for and against having a chocolate palace!!

I can't wait to hear your reasons!

Your task:

After the zoom, you are going to write a paragraph to tell me why we should or should not have a chocolate palace. You need to include at least 3 reasons for your choice and you need to really make me believe that you are right - convince me!!

Here are some sentence starters you could use:

  • I believe that we should have a chocolate palace because...
  • I believe we should not have a chocolate palace because...
  • This is the right choice because...
  • You should know that...
  • Chocolate palaces will be everywhere in the future because...
  • Chocolate palaces are a disaster because...

Please upload your paragraphs onto Google Classroom, I would love to hear what you think!!

Creative afternoon activities:

This afternoon, you are going to do some activities related to our book!

Task 1:

You are going to design your own chocolate bar! Willy Wonka is creative and uses lots of different ingredients to make his chocolate bars. He puts ingredients together that people do not think will taste good!

Now it's your turn! Create the chocolate bar you have always wanted!!

See Afternoon sheet 1 below.

Task 2:

Mr Wonka has an enormous chocolate factory. He's in charge, so he gets to make all the decisions on what to do and where things go.

If you could design a chocolate factory, what would it look like?

Let's get imaginative....This afternoon, I would like you to design your own chocolate factory. Think hard - what rooms would you have? Would there be secret tunnels? Would there be special rooms for making different things?

Please draw, paint or build your chocolate factory!! I cannot wait to see what you design!!

(If you don't like chocolate, perhaps you could design your own sweet factory instead!)
