Session 1 - Daily handwriting

https://teachhandwriting.co.uk/pre-handwriting-patterns.html

This is a web address to a link that we use in school.  The children are all at very different stages in their handwriting, letter formation and pencil grip.  This site takes you through the stages. Last term we looked at the straight lines. We are now on curves. It shows you a little clip first and then you get a chance to have a go.  If you could start each day with a little bit of handwriting – it will help with letter formation.

We are also going to work through a letter a day. Use your white board.

Now we have worked through our letters we are going to use them to crate words beginning with bbb

Here are a few to start you off.

Bat, ball, boat… can you think of some more?

Session 2 - Phonics / reading

Today we are going to have another look at our poem from Yesterday we will hopefully be a little bit more confident in saying it – it is good to think about the rhyme when reading a poem and this will help with the flow of the words.

I made myself a snowball
As perfect as can be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet,
And let it sleep with me.
I made it some pyjamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first - it wet the bed.

 by Shel Silverstein

We will have a look at a rhyming game today in our session – we are looking at developing our skills for listening and making a connection with the sounds.  Once we have finished our session today have a go at continuing the rhyming strings.  Can you spot any more rhyming strings in your books today?  Julia Donaldson books are always great for rhyming.  If you have any Dr. Seuss books at home – they are always wonderful for demonstrating rhymes too.

Break time

If you would like I have added a clip for you to watch.

I have added a clip about facts from Antarctica.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kA-_aro3lI

This is a link to explore the Arctic – the narrative is informative, the children will like the pictures.

Session 3 - Maths:  Zoom session

Here is the White Rose link incase you need it!

Day 3 of: Building 9 and 10

Today in our unit we are looking at  - Ordering numerals to 10.

We need to get the numbers in the correct order, but there are problems - someone keeps mixing up the numbers!!

The session is below that I will go through with the children today  - I have also added a couple of number sequencing activities - you only need to pick one. (I was aiming to appeal to all interests.)

Session 4 - RE - Gathering

Today we are going to continue to look at our Gathering topic for RE.

We are going to look at a clip from St Peter’s mass and a picture from a church. The Youtube link below is from mass on 14th February. If you have a look at some of the stages of the mass, the beginning as Fr Graham arrives. (9.41minutes) When someone is reading at the Lectern (17.40 minutes)

When the congregation go up for communion ( 43.25 minutes)

I would like the children to list all of the things that they can see.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nGt_6uS6Lc

I have also added a picture from our resources for them to look at (a PDF below- Processing into church)

In ‘normal time’ people gather at church on Sunday’s  - they gather every week as a community – They gather together to be in this special place  - ‘God’s House’.

When the community gather, they listen to ‘Scripture’- these are the words from the Bible – the special book that has all of the stories about God’s work, the life of Jesus his son and the special people ho tried hard to please God.

The community gather to follow traditions - they bless themselves as they enter God’s house, with holy water.  They follow the prayers and responses led by the priest. They sit, stand and kneel and during certain times of the mass.

The community say prayers when they are at mass.  They say prayers to say ‘sorry’ for what they may have done wrong during the week.  They say thank you for all that they have.  They say they are ready to receive the body of Christ in communion.  They say the ‘Our Father’ to pray to God. They say the Hail Mary to pray to Mary.

The community say their prayers quietly in their head (one their own) and sometimes they say their prayers together with everyone.

In some churches the community hold hands when they say the ‘Our Father’, some families hold hands with each other.

(remember yesterday we talked about things that we like doing on our own, with a couple of people and with lots of people – it is the same)

Today I would like you to draw a picture of a Church (God’s House) you may get a chance to head out on a walk today - you may even walk past one of our churches – St. Peter’s in the centre of Shoreham, Holy Family in Lancing, St. Teresa’s in Southwick.

Your task today – Could you draw the community gathering at Church on a Sunday – You could draw you and your family in the picture – if you wanted to.

Can you include the priest in your picture?

Session 5 - Knowledge and Understanding of the world.

Throughout this topic we are going to explore environments in our world.  We are going to start with the Polar Regions and think about animals that live in the snow. In the north and the south pole

I have added some resources below and some film clips on our arctic region.  Including a fact sheet for your parents, so they can help you.

Your task for this afternoon will take you through the week – Each afternoon I would like you to find out some information that can be put together to create a fact page. I know you have enjoyed looking at information books in class – do you have any information books at home that you could use for ideas – I have attached a few links below to inspire you.

For your fact page you will need to include:

A picture of at least one animal – more if you can.

A fact per animal

A fact about the weather.

A fact about food

A fact about animal houses.

Your task today – Now you hopefully have some idea about what a fact page looks like – why don’t you choose your topic that you would like to create your page about.

Some ideas for you…

Polar bears

Penguins

Arctic Fox

Seals

Food

Weather

Houses

Once you have decided you could create some art work today  - which can be one of the features of your page.

In the Polar Regions Page I have added some art ideas that may inspire you for your work.

Have fun.

I can’t wait to see what aspect of Polar Regions you have planned to do.

Well done for your great work today.

Have a lovely evening. Mrs H x
