14th January - Thursday

Hello Reception, welcome to today's learning

Session 1 - Handwriting

Daily handwriting –

This is a web address to a link that we use in school.  The children are all at very different stages in their handwriting, letter formation and pencil grip.  This site takes you through the stages. Last term we looked at the straight lines. We are now on curves. It shows you a little clip first and then you get a chance to have a go.  If you could start each day with a little bit of handwriting – it will help with letter formation.

We are also going to work through a letter a day. Use your white board

Thursday Today's letter is... - ddddddddd – around the dinosaurs bottom, up his big tall neck and down to his feet.

Session 2 Phonics and Session 3 Writing

- online session 9.40

Ow – blow the snow

This is today’s sound have a go at the resource sheet from Read Write Inc.

Can you say the sound?

Can you practise writing the letters?

Can you read the sound when it is in other words?

Can you make some flash cards from the words on the sheet – play a game with them – turn them over / read them / if you get them right you get to keep them – if you don’t they go to your opponent.

Can you add the ay, ee, igh and ow words to make a really challenging game today?

Make a snow picture! Or we may even just be able to look out the window. (who knows what today will bring!!!)

Second Part - Writing

Thinking about the set 2 sounds that you have learnt so far this week.

Can you write some sentences with the words in – you could draw a picture to go with each one?

Here are some examples for you…

ay: I can’t wait for my friends to come to my house to play.

ee: I can see a lot of frost in the garden.

igh: I hope it is windy so I can fly my kite high in the sky.

ow: I hope we get some snow!

(Tomorrow’s sound)  oo: I hope we can go to the zoo. "One day soon", mum said!

Think about your letter formation

Maths: Online session - session 4 at 11.10am

Today’s maths challenge is about finding the missing numbers – this is the early stages of Subtraction – thinking about the missing numbers. I am going to go through today’s focus with the children if you can’t make the session have a look at the link below. Once you have done the White Rose task on line have a go at the challenge – Gather together a collection of toys / animals / blocks. Count how many there are - start with 5, (add more in if you are confident to 5.)

You need to have something to hide your collection of items – (Under a cushion /in a bag etc) hide some away – count how many you are left with, can you work out how many are hiding?

You could write them down.

Session 5:  Expressive Arts and Design - Being Imaginative

Can you design and make a shop to go on our street?

Thinking out The Smartest Giant in town story and the clothes shop that he went to. I would like you to create a shop today. You need to think about what it is called and what it sells.  Can you focus on the shop front?  What would you see in the window?

Here are some ideas for how to do it.

Draw it on paper

Use a box from the pile of recycling – cover it in paper / paint it – leave it to dry.

Cut out the things that you want to go on your shop – stick them on.

Once it is complete could you take a photograph and send it over. Thank you.
