English - World Book Day activities:

We are doing an English zoom at 10:30am. Please use the link in the email to take part in this.

We will read a story together at the start of the zoom!

As it is World book day, you are going to think about one of your favourite authors and do a little bit of research about them. Being an author is a very tricky job...books don't write themselves! Once an author has written a book, other people have to read it and they help them to make it even better...they do lots and lots of editing! Authors are people just like us, some of them have really interesting lives.

Your job today is to pick your favourite author and research them.

See if you can find out (you may not be able to find the answers to all these questions):

  • What is their full name?
  • Where and when were they born?
  • Do they have a family? (children, brothers, sisters, grandchildren)
  • How many books have they written?
  • How long does it take them to write their books?
  • Do they have a favourite book/a hobby/places they like to go?

With this information, make a fact sheet! You could include a picture of them or pictures of their books!

There is a template below if you wish to fill this in instead.

World Book Day potato characters:

This afternoon, you are going to make your potato book characters! Mr English spoke about this in Friday's assembly and there were some examples in the newsletter last week.

The aim of the activity is to paint a potato to look like a book character of your choice! We will be doing this activity in school as well. We can share our potato characters in tomorrow's zoom! Keep them for assembly tomorrow afternoon as well!

If you do not have any paint at home, perhaps you could draw a potato on a piece of paper and colour in your paper potato to look like a book character!

We are excited to see what you create!

Here are some examples:

Have a look on Google images for more ideas! I searched 'potato book characters'.
