Monday 6th July 2020

Welcome to your home learning for Monday 6th July 2020!

Here you will find your tasks for the day. If you have any worries or concerns, you know where to find me.

Joke of the day:

Q: Why are fish so smart?
A: Because they live in schools.

Fact of the day:

An ant’s sense of smell is stronger than a dog’s.

Please follow one of the links on the Year 4 home page to either Cosmic Kids, GoNoodle, PE with Joe Wickes or Smiling Minds. The choice is up to you this week! Make sure you stay fit and healthy.

Please make sure you are dedicating about 25 minutes per day to reading. Remember you can quiz at home too!

Today we are looking at Special Focus 1 in our spelling books. This page looks at the short u sound which is spelt ‘ou.’ For example , in the word ‘double,’ the two vowels together sound like a ‘u.’

Guided reading

Have a listen to the Paperbag Prince. We will be basing our writing around this book this week.

THINK about the following questions:

  • How did you feel when you found out that there was a dump within the beautiful land?
  • What do you think is creating the dump? How could it be prevented?
  • How do you feel about the animals living in the dump?
  • Why did humans not like to be near it?
  • What words would you use to describe the Paperbag Prince?
  • Do you think the name Paperbag Prince suits him? Why?

Let’s start off the week with a reading comprehension! The topic of plastic pollution sort of links with our class reader this week. Pick the level which suits you the best and then mark it.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be returning to ‘time’ for the last time in Year 4! You have already done this at home, however lots of people said they would like more practise. Hopefully we will remember all our past learning and fly through it!

Seconds, Minutes and Hour Catchy song to listen to!

Today we are learning about an inspirational man. His name is Oscar Romero. Watch the video to find out about Romero's work in El Salvador. Then flick through the PowerPoint for further information.

After, you can design your own Romero cross! This is a cross which has illustrations of El Salvador behind Jesus. We actually have one of these on our prayer table in the classroom.
