Please follow one of the links on the Year 4 home page to either Cosmic Kids, GoNoodle, PE with Joe Wickes or Smiling Minds. The choice is up to you this week! Make sure you stay fit and healthy.

Please make sure you are dedicating about 25 minutes per day to reading. Remember you can quiz at home too!

Have a go at Unit 14 -Four in a row. Get someone in your house to test you on the spellings of words from choose the right word and word changers.

Guided reading

Today we will read The Wonder Garden. I love this book as the illustrations are beautiful, the facts are correct and the descriptions are magnificent! Today we are finding out about the Amazon.

Have a THINK about the following questions:

  • Why do you think the illustrator has chosen the pictures for the front cover?
  • Why do you think the phrase ‘Wander through the Wonder Garden’ has been used?
  • Why have the first two paragraphs on the Amazon page been written like a story?
  • How many species of animals and birds live there?
  • Why was a glass frog given its name?
  • Why are the names underneath the animal names written in italics?

We are starting the week with a reading comprehension. This one is a fact file, as the Wonder Garden is a fact file and it will be interesting to spot the similarities/differences. Choose the level which will suit you the best and then mark it when you have finished.

Today we are recapping our learning on multiplying 2 digit numbers by 1 digit. Use the pictures to remind you of the differences between short and long multiplication.

Top Tip: Don’t forget your place holders when multiplying by your tens column.

Top Tip 2: Question 1 has 5 rows of 32 because it shows 32 x 5. Therefore, if you add up all of the counters, you will find the correct answer. If you really struggle with the written method, draw out a picture like this one.

Multiplying: 2 digits times 1 digit

Today we are thinking about Pope Benedict XVI (who was the head of the church between 2005 and 2013).Flick through the PowerPoint and then THINK about the following questions:

  • ·  Does anything surprise you?
  • ·  What do you like about it?
  • ·  What are the qualities you see in others that you would most like to have yourself?
  • ·  What kind of person would you really like to be?
  • ·  How did Sorcha use money for a good purpose?
  • ·  How can you become holy, as the Pope suggests you can?
  • ·  Why does Pope Benedict say that some people do not find true happiness? Compare thoughts and ideas.

Main task:

If you were the Pope, what messages would you give to children? Prepare a speech. You can either write or record it.
