Monday 1st June

Fact of the day:

The first character Walt Disney created wasn't Mickey Mouse. It was Oswald, The Lucky Rabbit. Google him to find out what he looks like!

Start your day off with some exercise. Choose either to follow the Joe Wicks live workout or a yoga routine from the Cosmic Kids Yoga link!

Reading for at least 20 minutes today, independently or to an adult. Don't forget, you can still quiz on books at home!

Our new topic in maths is shape. We are starting this off today looking at turns and angles.

Let's have a quick recap of what an angle is first:

Here are 2 lines:

An angle is formed when 2 lines meet and make a point (or a corner).

Have a look - I have circled the angle in red!

Now we are going to think about turns. You have done this previously so let's recap.

We can turn in two different directions:

This means we are turning the same way the hands on the clock go.

This means we are turning the OPPOSITE way the hands on the clock go.

Have a look at the picture below:

Now that we have thought about the directions we could go in, we need to think about the 4 different types of turns.

Quarter turn

Half turn

Three quarter turn

Full turn

Have a look at the pictures below:

Now have a go at the worksheet below. See how many questions you can get through.

You might want to keep the pictures above on your screen to remind you of the turn types and directions.

Today we are going to focus on some grammar. You have 2 short activities.

The first is about different sentence styles.

The second is about prepositions.

We are moving on from looking at animals to looking at plants!

Today, we need to know what plants need in order to survive. These things are:

  • Air
  • Light
  • Water
  • Nutrients from the soil
  • Space

Your task today is to find out WHY plants need each of these things. You are going to present this as a poster.

You might want to draw a plant in the middle and put everything around it, you might want to draw a picture of each of the things the plant needs and write a sentence to say why that thing is needed. It's up to you but don't forget to put some detail in your sentences.
