Monday 18th May

Monday 18th May

Fact of the day:

Cadbury first produced milk chocolate in 1897, however, this didn't taste very good! Dairy Milk was first produced in 1905, this tasted much better and used milk as it's main ingredient!

PE:

Start your day off with some exercise. Choose either to follow the Joe Wicks live workout or a yoga routine from the Cosmic Kids Yoga link!

Reading:

Reading for at least 20 minutes today, independently or to an adult. Don't forget, you can still quiz on books at home!

Maths:

This week, we are going back to learning time! We are going to pick this back up with converting analogue (the clock face) to digital time.

Last time we did this, we looked at o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. Let's revisit that before we move on.

It is really important to look at digital time this way:

Have another look at these photos, showing you o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to:

Have a quick go at these questions. Convert the analogue time to digital time.

  1. 4 o'clock
  2. Quarter past 7
  3. Half past 10
  4. Quarter to 2
  5. 8 o'clock
  6. Quarter past 11
  7. Half past 3
  8. Quarter to 1

We are going to think about the past side of the clock. We need to think back to this clock. The red number shows us what the digital clock will say.

Now take a look at these pictures. They will show you how each time is shown on a digital clock:

Now have a go at converting the following times from analogue to digital.

  1. Five past 5
  2. Ten past 9
  3. Twenty past 10
  4. Twenty-five past 12
  5. Five past 8
  6. Ten past 7
  7. Twenty past 11
  8. Twenty-five past 1
  9. Five past 3
  10. Ten past 4
  11. Twenty past 2
  12. Twenty-five past 6

HELP!!!! I cant tell the time. It's too tricky!!

Do not panic. It just takes lots of practice. Watch this video which will hopefully help you remember oclock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.

Then, you can try the first sheet, which is converting oclock and half past to digital, and there is another if you are feeling confident and want to try quarter past and quarter to.

Year 3 Time

This will help you with making digital times

oclock and half past

oclock, half past, quarter past and quarter to digital times

English:

This week we are going to write a book review. Today, you are going to plan this.

You are going to do your book review on a book that you have recently finished. You can't do a book review on the book you are in the middle of reading because if you haven't finished it, you don't know if it is any good - it could have a terrible ending!!

Remember, in a book review, we ultimately want to recommend the book. So pick a book you enjoyed and can say good things about! Not one that sent you to sleep!

Fill out the following planning sheet today. You can easily do this in your purple books if you cannot print it.

Science:

You are going to do some research this afternoon to be able to answer the following questions:

  1. What is a vertebrate?
  2. What is an invertebrate?
  3. Which animals are vertebrates?
  4. Which animals are invertebrates?

Questions 1 and 2 you can write a sentence for.

Questions 3 and 4 you might want to produce your findings in a small table - vertebrate on one side and invertebrate on the other.
