Welcome to Monday's home learning page. I hope you are ready for another week of learning.
This week is 'Give Your Parents a Break' week. Read below for more details in this.
Please remember that Miss Cappella and Mr English are here to support your learning and are contactable via email - they are happy to help!
We begin the week with our Reading Comprehension task. Today we are focusing on WORD MEANING, SUMMARY and STRUCTURE. These are the final key reading skills.
WORD MEANING questions test your understanding of the words the writer has used.
SUMMARY questions are all about finding the main ideas in some or all of the text.
STRUCTURE questions test your understanding of how the text is organised.
This is the final week on the same text. Remember to read the whole text carefully again first. Then answer the following questions related to that text.
If you normally stay in the classroom with Miss C for reading, please work on the text and related questions about The Great Wall of China.
If you normally go to the library with Mr English for reading, please work on the text and related questions about The Real Blackbeard
Once you have answered all of the questions, check and your answers carefully using the answers sheets below.
Maths: Monday Arithmetic
Here are 10 arithmetic questions for our maths today. Remember that these are just like the 4 questions we do usually do every day in class (except there is 10 of them!)
You should be able to get on with these independently. Answer these questions in your workbook.
If you really cannot do one, move on to the next one and come back to it later. Remember to check your working out carefully to avoid silly mistakes.
- 5.87 + 3.123
- 180 ÷ 3 =
- 91 ÷ 7 =
- 60 ÷ (30 − 24) =
- 20% of 3,000 =
- 7 − 2.25 =
- 1/5 + 3/4 =
- 836 × 27
- 51% of 900 =
- 888 ÷ 37
Now that you have completed the 10 questions, mark your answers using the document below.

This day in history: 1981
Andrew Lloyd-Webber holds the world premiere of his musical 'Cats (based on poems by T.S.Eliot) in the West End in London. Thirty eight years later, in 2019, it was made into quite an appalling film. You can see the trailer for this (if you dare) at the bottom of the page.
