Growing in Science week

The children have been looking at all aspects of ‘Growing’ this week.  On Monday we looked at ‘us’, how we grow and the stages humans go through from babies to the elderly. We had a go at measuring each other ‘How many books tall are you?’ have a go at home. On Tuesday we looked at the features on our faces and drew portraits of our friends. It was a challenge to really look and focus on the shapes and colours we can see on each other's faces.  On Wednesday we looked at patterns and how they grow and change.  The children created some great repeated patterns to demonstrate their understanding. On Thursday we carried out an investigation– ‘What happens when you stand a celery stick in some coloured water? We had a go at making a prediction first.  We had some very interesting comments about their thoughts on the process and the outcome.  We continued to monitor the progress and the changes to the celery throughout the day on Thursday and Friday.  The children were fascinated to see the colour of the sticks altered slightly, but the leaves changed colours.  We have red and blue celery leaves in the class—please see the pictures below
