Friday 12th June 2020

Welcome to your home learning for Friday 12th June 2020!

Here you will find your tasks for the day. If you have any worries or concerns, you know where to find me.

Did you know?

Today would have been Anne Frank’s birthday. She was famous for writing a diary during the second world war. (We read about her a few weeks ago). She was in hiding for 761 days! We have been in lockdown now for 81 days now. Imagine being isolated for that long! I have visited the attic she hid in (behind a bookshelf) and it was tiny. She wasn’t even allowed to walk around her flat during the day time or go to the toilet, because she might have been heard.

PE:

Please follow one of the links on the Year 4 home page to either Cosmic Kids, GoNoodle, PE with Joe Wickes or Smiling Minds. The choice is up to you this week! Make sure you stay fit and healthy.

Reading:

Please make sure you are dedicating about 25 minutes per day to reading. Remember you can quiz at home too!

Spellings:

Please have a go at Dictation from Unit 13. I have attached a picture of the sentences you should get someone to test you on. You are focussing on the correct spelling on the ‘ion’ words.

Guided reading:

Read Chapter 10 and THINK about the following questions:

  • How do you think the children could stop the supermarket?
  • Imagine you were Professor Jamieson, what advice would you give the children?
  • How could you attract people’s attention to a poster? What does it need?
  • What is a campaign?

English

We are finishing the week with a reading comprehension. After all of our hard work on marine life, I thought it would be interesting to find out about famous explorers who are renowned for their ocean experiences. There are 3 levels to choose from. The answers are also included.

Maths

Today I thought you could apply your new knowledge about co-ordinates in an investigation. It is going to take a bit of trial & error and perseverance, but it should be a bit of fun. It’s a good problem solving activity.

DT

Today we are looking at seasonal fruit. The attached chart is quite interesting as it shows when different fruits are best to eat.

Your task is to research a recipe using fruit. You do not have to make it, but if you do I’d love to see a picture! You are going to write up how to make your recipe (it must contain fruit). You could do fruit skewers, you could do a smoothie, you could find out about how to make a crumble or pie. Bonus points if you use a fruit of vegetable which is in season at the moment! There is an example of a recipe attached below. You will need to ensure you use step-by-step instructions, have an equipment and ingredient list and of course a title.
