12th February - Friday

Good morning Reception welcome to today’s learning.

I look forward to seeing you all later on Zoom.

PE session

Here is a link to a warm up game – It may be one to play with someone in your family.  Watch the clip and then have a go.  This is the warm-up.

For a little bit of variety this week I have added some new ideas.  You may have a family favourite that you like to start your day with – (which is fine) But here is a warm-up and some plans for you. The plan will give you ideas and some props you may need to collect – they are all things from around the house.

I have attached a lesson plan below for you –

Here is the video link to help you visualise the session.

Task 1 is called - Knee Tag

Task 2 is called - Around the bodies

Task 3 is called  - Balancing act

You may want to try one a day or all three each day? I hope you have fun!

Don’t forget there is also Joe Wicks and Cosmic Kids to help you get active. (I believe Joe Wicks wears a fancy dress outfit on a Friday!)

Session 1: Handwriting

Today’s Handwriting

Our next letter for our alphabet practice today is yyyyy.

Have a go at ‘yyyy’

Remember all letters start at the top!

Session 2

Maths -Growing 6,7,8:  Zoom Session 1

Today we are going to measure time.

Here is the link from White Rose to see what Miss Cooper has to say  -

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/growing-6-7-8-week-3/

To get started let’s have a look at the cards.

Do they show the same as a matching pair or are they different?

Today we are going to measure time -here is a sand timer – it takes 10 seconds for all the sand to run to the bottom we are going to see how many jumps the kangaroo can do in 10 seconds.

We are going to have a look at some challenges involving time today. Your first challenge in our lesson will be to find something in the house - I hope you are able to join us for some fun!

Do you have a timer at home? You may have a sandtimer?

Have a look around the house for all of the places that you can see a clock or something that tells the time.

Today's challenge: I want you to explore how many things you can do in 1 minute.

Think of a list of jobs you can do in 1 minute.  Some examples: how many times can you write your name.

How may cubes can you get in a tower?

When you have completed your list of jobs can you work out which ones were the quickest to do and which ones took the longest?

I have added some challenges below for exploring time at home.

Breaktime

This is another link for another version of the story of The Great Race

The story is about 2.12 minutes – but there is lots of interesting information following the story about how different parts of the year  - months and seasons give a more in depth link to your animal.

Session 3 - Communication Language and Literacy: Zoom

You have seen many different versions of the Great Race this week.  I am going to read you the version from Monday again in our session today.  Once you have listened to the story I would like you to have a go at making some puppets to retell the story today.

Then I would like you to have a go at retelling the story to your family (maybe as this evenings pre movie treat!)

Your task needs to include:

– the 12 animals.

  • The emperor
  • A river
  • You may want to number the animals, so you do not forget their order.
  • Writing their names may also help.
  • Each one could have a holding bay to wait in before it is their turn to cross the river.
  • You could draw your animals.
  • You could make them from Lego.
  • You could use some existing toys – if they are not the correct animal you could make some masks for your toys.
  • Here is the list of animals for you:
  • Rat
  • Ox
  • Tiger
  • Rabbit
  • Dragon
  • Snake
  • Horse
  • Goat
  • Monkey
  • Rooster
  • Dog
  • Pig

I can’t wait to hear how your story telling goes!

Session 4 - Communication Language and Literacy

You probably need to spend a little bit more time perfecting your performance!

Session 5 - Phonics

As we are now at the end of all our set 2 sounds – it is just a matter of practise, practise, practise.

You need to build your confidence and become familiar with the sounds, so you are able to spot them as ‘special friends’ when you see them in a word.  Continue to read as many books as possible – Oxford Owl Ebooks are a good resource.  And don’t forget to come in on Thursday to collect your books on Thursday.

I have added some phonics games below, there are many more to choose from on Twinkl – they are a great resource.

Try this phonics game.

This is the link for a phonics play game – give it a go. You can go up the levels if you are managing OK on stage 2 words.

Just to finish off our wonderful week …

You may want to get everyone join in with a little dance before you begin…

If you are happy with your performance then you may want to try and do another arty activity.

Have an amazing weekend and a wonderful half term.

Please keep up your daily reading. Be amazing for your families…

See you on Tuesday 23rd February
