PSCHE

We normally start our weeks with a PSCHE lesson. This week our topic is 'risk, hazard and emergency.' We are using a resource provided by St John Ambulance. Parents/carers - it may be a good opportunity to talk through some of the key procedures in an emergency. There is a PowerPoint and then worksheet below.

Spellings

We will watch the video for our new spelling unit in our English Zoom session. For the next two weeks, we will be focusing on the 'ay' sound. Once you have watch it, please have a go at Spelling Zone on page 24 in your purple books.

English (Zoom input at 10:30 am)

Today we are beginning our new class reader - How to train your dragon. We will be reading the first chapter together on zoom and considering some questions. If you want a head start, the PowerPoint is below.

Your main written task is to complete the reading  comprehension task (also based around dragons). There are three versions ( 1 star is the easiest, 3 star the toughest). Pick the one which suits you best. The answers are included.

Maths (Zoom input at 9:00am)

Today we are focusing on the 11 and 12 times table.

Use the multiplication grid below to help you spot some patterns.

If you are not confident with the 11 and 12 times table, you can use the 10 x table to help you.

E.g. 3 x 12

You can work out 3 x 10 and 3 x 2

3 x 10 = 30

3 x 2 = 6

30 + 6 = 36

It would be great if you could join us on Zoom at 1pm to read Humphrey the Lost Whale: A True Story, by Wendy Tokuda. In this true story, a whale named Humphrey swam into the San Francisco Bay of the Pacific Ocean, and then continued into a freshwater river. The whale could not survive in the confined freshwater, nor could it turn around in the river to get back to the ocean. A community of people came together to help get the whale back into the Pacific Ocean.

What do you think the word community means? Can you think of 10 different words? e.g. support. You could create a poster with these words.

Now think about the following questions:

What are the advantages of being in a community?

What do you have to do if you are part of a community?

What causes the breakdown of a community?

What helps a community to work?

A person can be a member of many different communities at the same time.

Eg. St.Peter’s School is a community which educates children and develops their God given talents.

Task - consider how you feel to belong to different communities. There is a template below.
